Day 1 was a dismal event... first I was sick, recovering from a week-long cold...

... and second it was pouring down like crazy.

Climbing the hill in the rain (on SHO) might be fine...

...but descending the road towards Reisdorff was brutal. Rear wheel locking up and me nearly beefing it in the turns pretty soon made it clear that this would not be a record-breaking ride.

Despite having my Angel and Manuel there to shoot me (with cameras) I was not going to risk my health.

Having fun with the cameras nevertheless...

Nevertheless I wanted to get a good effort in, especially on the climb and the flat sections of the course... so I shoved off  and climbed in full race mode (although the bad weather gear did slow me down some).

Manuel was hard at work to capture the SHO in action.

Racing hard !

Long before I got back to Dillingen I knew that I would not crack any records, would not post a time worthy to be written on pavement...

...oh well... tomorrow is another day.
